Investment Strategy

Each Schwab Equity Index Fund employs an indexing strategy that seeks to track the performance of a particular benchmark index. With Schwab Equity Index Funds, investors can track a range of benchmark indices. The funds may be appropriate as core holdings for certain investors.

Schwab Equity Index Fund Line-Up

Schwab® S&P 500 Index Fund

Designed to track the total return of the S&P 500® Index, which represents the performance of 500 leading U.S. publicly traded companies and a broad range of industries.

Schwab 1000 Index® Fund

Seeks to match the total return of the Schwab 1000 Index®. The Schwab 1000 Index represents the performance of the 1,000 largest publicly traded companies in the U.S. with size being determined by market capitalization (total market value of all shares outstanding).

Schwab Small-Cap Index Fund®

Designed to track the Russell 2000® Index, an established index that measures the performance of the small-cap sector of the U.S. equity market.  The Russell 2000® is a subset of the Russell 3000®, representing approximately the 2000 smallest issues.

Schwab International Index Fund®

Designed to track the performance of the MSCI EAFE Index, an industry-recognized index composed of MSCI country indices representing developed markets outside of North America — Europe, Australasia, and the Far East.

Schwab Total Stock Market Index Fund®

Designed to track the total return of the entire U.S. stock market, as measured by the Dow Jones U.S. Total Stock Market IndexSM. This index includes all publicly traded stocks of companies headquartered in the U.S. for which pricing information is readily available.

Agnes Hong, CFA

Managing Director, Head of Passive Equity Strategies

Agnes Hong is a Managing Director and Head of Passive Equity Strategies for Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc. (CSIM). Ms. Hong leads the portfolio management teams of Schwab's passive equity funds and ETFs, which comprise the Schwab Equity Index Funds, the Schwab Fundamental Index Funds, and the Schwab Equity ETFs. She also has overall responsibility for all aspects of the management of the funds. Prior to joining CSIM in 2009, Ms. Hong spent five years as a portfolio manager at Barclays Global Investors (subsequently acquired by BlackRock), where she managed institutional index funds and quantitative active funds. Prior to that, Ms. Hong worked in management consulting and product management, servicing global financial services clients.
 
Ms. Hong earned an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in Computer Science and Accounting from the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia).  She is a CFA charterholder, and a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco.

Ferian Juwono, CFA

Managing Director, Senior Portfolio Manager

Ferian Juwono is a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager for Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc. (CSIM). He is responsible for the day-to-day co-management of the Schwab Fundamental Index Funds, Schwab Equity Index Funds, and the Schwab Equity ETFs. Prior to joining CSIM in 2010, Mr. Juwono worked at BlackRock (formerly Barclays Global Investors), where he spent over three years as a portfolio manager, managing equity index funds for institutional clients, and nearly two years as a senior business analyst. Prior to that, Mr. Juwono worked for over four years as a senior financial analyst with Union Bank of California. 
 
Mr. Juwono earned an MBA with a concentration in Finance from California State University, Los Angeles. He is also a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of San Francisco.

Ron Toll

Portfolio Manager

Ron Toll is a Portfolio Manager for Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc. (CSIM). He is responsible for the day-to-day co-management of the Schwab Fundamental Index Funds and the Schwab Equity Index Funds. Mr. Toll has been a portfolio manager with CSIM since 2007, and has held a number of positions at the firm since beginning his tenure in 1998.  His previous roles include serving as a manager in Portfolio Operations, and as a manager in Portfolio Operations and Analytics.

Mr. Toll earned a BS in Agricultural and Managerial Economics from the University of California, Davis.
